Terms of Employment
Ideal Teacher Profile
Before You Accept a Job
Checklist
- Please read all these points before sending your application:
Covering
Letter
- No
covering letter is required with your CV (but see the section
on interviews by phone).
- If
possible, a recent, passport-size, colour photo should be sent with your application,
either included in the CV, or separately in jpeg (jpg) format.
Interviews
by Phone
- Final
selection is made after a telephone interview, which is why we must have a phone
number (with country and area codes) and a few options of convenient times to
phone.
- Please
give both local time and GMT, making it clear whether these times are am or pm.
Vacancies Are for Unaccompanied
Males Only
- We
are sorry that these vacancies for men only. Saudi Arabian society has strict
segregation of the sexes, and at present we have no positions for women.
- Accommodation
is bachelor-status, and although married men may apply, it should be assumed that
it is very unlikely that their wives could accompany them.
Race
and Religion
- Race,
colour and religion are not important.
- Although
a previous rule banning the issue of visas to people with Israeli stamps in their
passports no longer applies, not all Saudi officials may be aware of this, particularly
in remote areas.
Native
English Speakers Only
- Applicants
must be native speakers of English, and speak perfect idiomatic English.
- Their
country of origin, and that of which they hold a passport, should be one where
English is the predominant or official language.
- Regional
British accents are perfectly acceptable, as are accents of countries such as
Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Canada.
MORE
NATIONALITIES NOW CONSIDERED
-
We are now able to accept applications from teachers who are outside Saudi Arabia
if they hold passports of the following countries:
- Australia
- Canada
- Eire
- New
Zealand
-
United Kingdom.
-
Teachers already in Saudi Arabia with US citizenship can also be considered.
- However,
this could change at any time without warning, so please enquire about the current
situation.
Dress
Code
- Teachers
must dress smartly for classes, and usually have to wear a tie.
- They
must also be prepared to conform to accepted standards of dress away from work.
Shorts and sleeveless shirts are not generally acceptable in public.
- Long
hair and piercings in the nostrils or eyebrows are not acceptable, and the wearing
of even one earring would be frowned upon in many places.
Customize
Your CV
- We
want to interview every teacher who might possibly be suitable for these vacancies,
but we cannot make a decision without all the relevant facts.
- So
please spend a little time revising your CV, as just a few changes might improve
your chance of acceptance considerably.
- Put
yourself in the position of our clients. All they know about you is what they
see on paper.
- Ideally
the CV should be on one page only and should include a recent, passport-size,
colour photo if possible.
- Your
teaching qualifications and experience should be emphasized. Other qualifications
and work history need to be included, but in much less detail, and given secondary
importance.
- We
have employed teachers of all ages from an extremely wide variety of backgrounds
and nationalities, married and single, so you shouldn't assume that there is "wrong"
information which will disqualify you.
- Your
CV must include the following information before we can consider you for an interview:
- Nationality
- Country
of birth
- Current
address
- Phone
number (details of times to phone can be given separately)
- Qualifications
such as a degree or TEFL certificate if you have them
- Teaching
experience (not necessarily of English)
- Sex
(it is not always clear from a name if an applicant is male or female)
- Marital
status
- Age
(A
fax number would also be useful, as contracts are often sent by fax to save time.)
Format
and Names of CV and Photo Attachments
-
If your CV was not written using Word for Windows, please save it as an RTF (rich
text format) file before attaching it.
- Photos
should be in jpeg (jpg) format (or, even better, inserted into your CV).
- It
would be appreciated if you could use the following names for your message and
attachments:
- Subject
of message - "(Your Name) Saudi Job"
- CV
- "(Your Name) CV"
- Photo
(if you are sending one now) - "(Your Name) Photo"
