Terms and Conditions of Employment for ELT Instructors

• Contract lengths are 12 months (renewable). Contracts of shorter length can sometimes be agreed between employer and recruit if he does not wish to, or is unable to, commit for a full year.
• The employer covers all costs of hire as follows: London Harley Street medical for visa; authentication of academic certificates for visa purposes; work visa; procurement of iqama ID in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; flight to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
• The recruit is liable to pay for costs of travel to/from the London medical. He is also liable to pay for the cost of passport photos for the visa process, plus the cost of postage or travel in getting required documents to our London representative for visa processing.
• We can usually process visas for new UK or Irish recruits in a maximum period of two weeks. Visas for other nationalities take longer.
• Recruits are employed on legitimate teacher work visas, as mandated by the Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
• Contracts commence according to the first day the employee reports for working duty in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This means teachers are salaried from the first day they start working.
• Teachers may be asked to teach up to a maximum of thirty full contact hours per week. Almost all projects in the Kingdom however involve a maximum load of twenty-seven and a half contact hours.
• Salary rates are variable depending on the qualifications and experience of candidates.
• At our centres in Riyadh and Jubail, teachers may ask for overtime work in the evenings.
• Shared bachelor-status accommodation is provided free of charge. Shared accommodation means a shared house. Each teacher has his own bedroom, but must share a kitchen, dining room, living room and bathroom. Some bedrooms are en suite.
• Contracts are available for bachelor-status male instructors only.
• All housing comes with furniture, utensils, washing machine, fridge-freezer, TV and bedding. Teachers should bring their own towels.
• Households are responsible for paying their own utility bills: electricity, telephone calls made (employer pays for line subscription) and water. Bills are low, provided that householders do not leave air-conditioning running unnecessarily during the summer months when everyone is out. Electricity bills work out at about £5 sterling per person per month in winter months rising to a maximum of about £25 or £30 per person per month in peak summer months. Water bills are minimal and cost £20 per person per year (less than £2 per month).
• Cost of living: teachers who wish to save their salary can count on spending around 2000 Saudi riyals per month on living and personal expenses. The cost of living is quite cheap in Saudi Arabia.
• The standard working week is 40 hours, from Saturday to Wednesday. The working week comprises 27.5 to 30 contact hours plus 12.5 to 10 office hours.
• Almost all instructors work on a single shift basis from 07:30 to 16:00 daily. However, one or two instructors may be assigned to work at our Riyadh or Jubail centres on a split shift basis from 08:30 to 11:30 daily and then from 16:00 to 21:30 daily.
• Each instructor accrues 2.5 days of paid annual leave per 30 days worked. Holiday pay is payable on completion of contract. Leave periods are taken by instructors over periods that are agreed by management.
• The company provides a return flight allowance plus exit/reentry visa for annual vacation time.
• The company also provides a flight home on completion of the contract.
• The company provides 75% medical cover
• Termination of contract: if the employee chooses to resign for any reason he must serve thirty (30) days notice to the employer. If the employer chooses to terminate the contract early for any reason he shall serve thirty days notice. In certain special cases as detailed in the relevant article of contract (eg criminal activity) the employer reserves the right to terminate the contract without notice.
• The European Centre, Al Rajhi Company for Human Resources Development, is active Kingdom-wide in Saudi Arabia. However, most vacancies are available in the cities of Riyadh or Jubail.
